Saying thank you for a second chance

NEW YORK

Ms. Herbert and 8 other people whose lives were saved by strangers - first responders - were invited by the FDNY and fire commissioner to meet their guardian angels.

"I was just so thankful. No idea how grateful," Herbert said.

She collapsed in class at P.S. 327. Five boys ran for help and called 911. The girls stayed with her.

They grabbed another teacher, Alina Salner, who started CPR and defibrillation.

Then the pros stepped in, EMTs Ricardo Otero and Raul Perez, and saved her life.

There weren't a lot of dry eyes here and some of the EMTs really got shaken up at this annual brunch to reunite souls who got a second chance with those who gave it to them.
