Police probe how pedestrian got on GWB's lower level

FORT LEE, N.J.

Twenty-six-year-old Christina McQuaid of Leonia broke her ankle early Saturday after getting her foot stuck in a roadway grate.

But since the bridge's lower roadway doesn't have sidewalks and shouldn't be accessible to pedestrians, it's unclear how she got there.

Investigators believe she may have been a passenger in a car and was dropped off somewhere along the bridge, but that had not been confirmed that as Saturday afternoon.

The Record (http://bit.ly/KLj75w) reports McQuaid told authorities she went out for drinks in the Bronx, N.Y., on Friday night, then took a shuttle to Riverside Park in New York.

She eventually decided to walk across the bridge to get home.
