Massachusetts wildlife officials capture Cape Cod Bear

WELLFLEET, Mass.

Police say they found the bear roaming around a resident's property in Wellfleet at about 5 p.m. Monday.

WCVB-TV reports wildlife officials used a tranquilizer dart to subdue the bear, thought to be a male around three years old.

Authorities believe the bear swam across the Cape Cod Canal from the mainland Memorial Day weekend. It's since been spotted at more than a dozen locations along a 60-mile stretch of the Cape from Sandwich east to Provincetown.

Officials believe this is the first time a bear has been on the Cape.
