Jennifer Gallo says the moment DEP crews put on a spray cap, the kids surrounded the hydrant.
Nearly all of the families in a /*Morris Park*/ apartment building don't have air conditioning units.
"You can't walk in that heat, you are soaked," said Gallo.
Across town, Bridget Satterfield brought two fans at the store and quickly carted them home - desperate for any relief for her family.
"I'll put it at the window, but it will probably blow in hot air, but we'll try anything to get through this heat," said Satterfield.
Satterfield doesn't even want to think about high temperatures Thursday, because like so many, it is hotter at home compared to outside.
"I'm not coming out tomorrow," he added.
