Up Close: Aging in New York City

NEW YORK

A new study claims life expectancy in New York City is rising faster than anywhere else in the country.

The average in the Big Apple is 82 years old.

New Yorkers are living longer and healthier lives.

The study says much of the credit goes to our mayor, who some call "Nanny" Bloomberg.

But one in three senior citizens in New York live below the poverty line.

They will need help, and services.

This week, we'll discuss aging in New York City with the city's Health Commissioner Thomas Farley, and Bobbie Sackman, Director of Public Policy for the Council of Senior Centers and Services.

Watch Up Close with Diana Williams every Sunday morning at 11:00 on Channel 7.
