Connecticut inmate saw oysters as way out from death row

HARTFORD

In an interview with The Hartford Courant (http://cour.at/N1Ykj5 ), Steven Hayes says he made up claims in letters last year that he killed 17 people and committed dozens of drugged date rapes.

He had hoped prison authorities would notify police and he could trade information for food, including oysters to which he is deathly allergic.

The 49-year-old Hayes says he wanted to be found dead in his cell.

Hayes says he promised his lawyer he would not end his appeals to speed his execution.
