Investigators say surveillance cameras captured the video shortly after the attempt in Washington Heights on Friday.
The man allegedly followed a 14-year-old girl into her building around 8 a.m.
He then tried to sexually assault her in a stairwell.
She fought him off, and he fled the scene.
Police say he is about 20 years old, approximately 5-foot-5, with a thin build.
