New law will force cabbies to watch for sex trafficking

NEW YORK

Drivers who knowingly transport trafficking victims will lose their licenses and be subject to a fine of $10,000.

Sex trafficking by taxi is rare, but advocacy groups say that as police crack down on brothels, traffickers have adjusted and are now paying drivers more money to ferry victims to the customer.

The city plans to train taxi drivers to spot clues.

But many divers don't like the idea, saying they are being unfairly targeted and questioning how police can even enforce the law in the first place.
