Good samaritans jumped into action, caught him, and held him until cops got there.
Cameras were rolling as it happened. "What's your name dude? You're gonna be famous," you can hear being asked in the video. 26-year-old /*Noah Udall*/ is famous all right. So is a suspect who allegedly stole her phone and tried to run off with it after cops say he ripped the iPhone out of this unsuspecting woman who chased after him. Right past Brian Hester and a group of other good samaritans who were not about to let him get away. "There was an extremely diverse group of New Yorkers who stood up and said we're not having this anymore. Wild West city this is not," said Hester. Once Udall was on the ground after running for a few blocks, an obviously winded Hester whipped out his camera and started narrating. "Look at all these good people here in the city of New York. This is how we roll," you could hear him say. A day later Noah Udell is facing charges of robbery and assault. The victim has her iPhone back. And this corner of Church Street is just a little bit safer after a group of complete strangers who banded together and decided this would not happen in their town.
