1 dead after wrong-way crash on LIE

One person is dead and another critically injured after a car going the wrong way crashed into another vehicle on the Long Island Expressway.

Police say the driver of a black Honda Civic was headed in the wrong direction when he slammed into a Mercedes near Exit 41 in Jericho at around 4:30 a.m.

The driver of the Civic was killed, and a female passenger was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police shut down the westbound lanes of the LIE between Exits 42 and 43 as they investigated the crash.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
