Cop accused of rape released on bail

NEW YORK

A police spokesman says 28-year-old /*Arthur Roldan*/ was arrested Wednesday on charges of rape, menacing and assault. He says the off-duty incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the /*St. George*/ section.

Roldan was released from custody Thursday night on $20,000 bail.

Police say Roldan, who was assigned to the 78th Precinct in Brooklyn, knew the victimr he allegedly raped while threatening her with a gun and knife.

On Thursday, officers were retrieving video from the area's many surveillance cameras in an effort to sort out what happened on Tuesday night.

Neighbors didn't know what to think when police detectives showed up.

Roldan's family didn't talk, and his lawyer didn't add much either.

The six-year veteran was assigned to a precinct in /*Park Slope*/ and has been suspended without pay.

Last month, a former /*New York City*/ police officer who admitted raping a schoolteacher he had grabbed off a street was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison.
