Ironman triathlon to go on despite sewage leak

TARRYTOWN, N.Y.

A warning is posted from Croton Point Park in Westchester County and points south.

The problem stems from a sewer pipe that burst Wednesday in Tarrytown. Since then, millions of gallons of chlorine-treated raw sewage are pouring into the Hudson.

Westchester County approved the "controlled discharge" at Sleepy Hollow so workers can repair the break.

Racers were getting rubbed down and ready for the first ever NYC Ironman triathlon and nobody wanted one of swim portion canceled.

But, the sewage dumping stopped Friday afternoon and it's not like any of these runners were unaware they would be swimming in the Hudson River.

Training for an Ironman triathlon is an enormous commitment. They have been training for months so they are all in.

Several groups routinely test the waters in the Hudson.

The river keepers tested up near Ossining and they say the amount of sewage from this spill is probably not an issue.
