Ex-top cop Bill Bratton making NYPD comeback

NEW YORK

Bratton headed the NYPD for over two years during the 1990s under Rudolph Giuliani.

Bratton also has served as police chief in Los Angeles and Boston.

He told the Wall Street Journal that if the job of police commissioner in New York was offered he would "have to seriously consider it."

Bratton currently is chairman of Kroll, an international intelligence and information management company.

He's known for reducing crime, combating gang violence and improving police-community relations.

The NYPD's current police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, has declined to say if he'd consider serving under Mayor Michael Bloomberg's successor.
