Hit-and-run driver kills 90-year-old woman

Investigators are searching for a driver whose car struck and killed a 90-year-old woman with dementia who had wandered from her home in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Police say Nella Atkins was struck at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Highland and Bradley avenues.

She was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where physicians pronounced her dead.

Police say the driver fled the scene after the crash.

Investigators are trying to identify the suspect and urged anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers at 203-755-1234.
