A recent surge in violence had community leaders taking to the street Sunday evening in Queens.

The "I am Present for Peace" march took place in Jamaica.

Congressman Gregory Meeks joined philanthropist Russell Simmons, reverend Al Sharpton, and community activist, Erica Ford, for the march at the corners of Sutphin Boulevard and 111th Avenue.

The march called on parents, police and local officials to work together to implement strategies in an effort to end the violence.
