Woman dies from neck wound on Lower East Side

MANHATTAN

The incident happened in a stairwell inside a building on at Orchard and East Houston Streets around 10:30 a.m.

29-year-old Carlisle Brigham Champalimaud was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in cardiac arrest.

She is the daughter of a prominent investment banker from St. Louis.

She was married a year ago in a lavish ceremony in Newport, RI.

She apparently lives with her husband on E. 12th Street. Her huband could not be reached for comment.

Why she was on Orchard Street is not clear at this time. A tenant said that she would often visit someone at that address.

Authorities said the woman was bleeding from the neck.

Her body was found by a tenant who peformed CPR.

"I flipped her over, and when I flipped her over it was the most horrific moment. She had blood on her nose, her face, her neck, her whole t-shirt was just covered in blood. It did not seem like it was a robbery. Her debit card was there, and like her clothes were there. It was like ruffled and everything but I think that's from her like falling down the stairs from the second floor. That's what I think, but you know we got to leave it up to the cops to figure out what exactly happened," said Mizanur Rahman, tenant.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital. It remains unclear if she was murdered or died as a result of a tragic accident.
