Puppy tossed from moving car on LIE is out of hospital

SUFFOLK COUNTY

Newsday (http://bit.ly/OIj0v1 ) reports that the puppy, named Joey, was discharged Friday from the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip.

He was there for three weeks after his neck was broken when he was tossed out of a car in Brentwood.

At first, veterinarians weren't sure the 3-month-old puppy would be able to walk again. But now he can.

Dr. Lynda Loudon-Sheppard says Joey tires easily, but he's much stronger than doctors expected he'd be now.

Joey is being fostered now. He'll be available for adoption in about a month.

Some $39,000 has been donated for Joey's care and $27,000 for information leading to his abuser's conviction.

Eyewitness News was there when Joey first came into the /*Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island*/.

He was in a lot of pain, trying to move but couldn't.

But now he's moving much better.

"He loves everybody. We let the kittens visit with him and he kisses them. He's a lover," adds Lynda.

So it's no surprise that Lynda Loudon says close to 100 people have called asking to adopt little Joey.

Some from as far as Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Loudon and */ISLIP*/ town officials now have the daunting task of reviewing all the applications. v "It's going to be a lot of time but he's worth it. We're going to put the time and the effort in to make sure we find the perfect home for him," she said.

Police have plastered signs all over Brentwood asking people to call them if they know who may have done this.

The Suffolk /*SPCA*/ says they have two investigators working full time on this case and they have received some tips.

"We want to find the person who did this and get what he deserves but as time goes on obviously we start to get a little disappointed," adds Lynda.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
