Police were notified that a group of bikers had fled the scene of a traffic stop on the Tappan Zee Bridge after a New York state trooper was assaulted.
Officers chased the three motorcyclists into Yonkers, where one of the men crashed into a Yonkers police car.
He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Four police officers were injured in the accident, and have been placed off-duty.
The other two men lost control of their motorcycles, fell to the ground and were arrested.
One of them, 51-year old Dennis Norwood of Brooklyn, became involved in a physical struggle with police and was eventually handcuffed.

Norwood is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, and was issued numerous Vehicle and Traffic violations.
Also under arrest is 49-year old Kenneth Hammond of Elizabeth New Jersey, who is charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer and was issued numerous Vehicle and Traffic violations.
The identity of the motorcyclist who was killed has not yet been released.
