New York City police have made an arrest after surveillance video showed a dog being severely beaten in a Harlem building elevator.

The beating occurred at the Wagner Houses on East 120th Street in Harlem on Aug. 26.

The video (beating edited out above) shows a man kicking and striking the medium-sized dog multiple times.

Police arrested 28-year-old Brian Freeman of the Bronx on Monday.

Sources say a detective was at one of the criminal court buildings, recognized the suspect and arrested him. The suspect was at court on an unrelated matter.

Freeman is charged with torturing and injuring an animal.
