Off-duty NYPD officer stabbed at home in Queens

NEW YORK

The stabbing took place at the home of Officer /*Rishi Gobin*/, 34, on 170th Street.

Police say the officer was stabbed in the side and suffered blunt trauma to the head after attempting to stop a robbery in his home.

A manhunt is now under way for two suspects believed to be the robbers.

"They did a cursory examination, but it doesn't appear any vital organs were struck," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said. "He's been sedated, so we're not able to speak to him at this time. The investigation is ongoing as to what the circumstances were of him being injured."

The incident took place at 1:15 p.m.

"We're still trying determine the circumstances, but obviously any time an officer is injured is obviously a concern here," Kelly said.

The officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
