Long Island Marine gets hero's welcome home

LONG ISLAND

Captain James Byler lost both legs in an explosion while leading his platoon in 2010.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

On Saturday afternoon, hundreds took part in a special welcome home celebration in his honor.

The non-profit group "Building Homes for Heroes" modified his home to make it accessible for him.

"Building Homes for Heroes" has a big mission ahead.

Starting this month, the group plans to give 15 mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans in the next 15 weeks.
