Physician charged in drug deaths of 2 patients

MINEOLA

Dr. William Conway was charged Friday in an updated indictment.

Prosecutors say one man got prescriptions for 450 oxycodone pills and died within two days.

The other overdosed on oxycodone and two other narcotics. That happened two days after he got a prescription for 180 oxycodone pills.

Conway has been in custody since his June arrest on charges of illegally distributing painkillers. He is to be arraigned on the new charges next week.

His attorney said Conway is fighting the allegations.

Conway's former office assistant faces arraignment on conspiracy and drug distribution charges later Friday. His attorney's name was not immediately available.
