October is Archtober: Celebrating architecture

Cynthia Kracauer wants to improve the employment situation for architects, so she's heading up a month long festival that celebrates New York City's architecture and design. October is Archtober.

Sign up for a tour with the architect who designed it. For example, at the base of the frank ghery designed spruce street tower.

There's a public school that Joe Aliotta designed in and will show you around. It's a school that probably looks different from the one you attended, and there's a reason for that.

Some of the other spots for tours include 40 Bond (a building that presents a new face on apartment living), the newly renovated New York Historical Society, the Breadbox Cafe in Queens, and the Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island.

Turning October into a month about buildings and design may help raise the profile of architects and remind people about the importance of their work.
