Stephen Barton of Southbury, Connecticut was in that theater on July 20th in Aurora, Colorado.
12 people were killed and dozens of others injured when a crazed gunman opened fire during the opening of the Batman movie.
Stephen was in the theater just by chance.
He was more than midway through a cross-country bike trip with a friend.
He ended up taking 25 shotgun pellets to his face, neck, chest and arms.
Barton is now living in New York City and working as a policy and outreach assistant at Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group spearheaded by Mayor Bloomberg.
We had a chance to talk with this remarkable young man, about that night and what he is doing now.
Watch Up Close with Diana Williams every Sunday morning at 11:00 on Channel 7.
