Auditions planned for new Harlem boys choir

NEW YORK

The Wall Street Journal says auditions will be held on Oct. 15-17 and Oct. 22-24 at the Church of the Ascension in Morningside Heights.

The choir was founded in 1968. It trained underprivileged children to sing in concert halls around the world. It also provided music instruction, academic tutoring and counseling.

The auditions are the first sign of the choir's comeback.

Up to 60 boys in grades 4-12 will be selected.

Horace Turnbull, the brother of the choir's late founder, is leading the new effort.

Rehearsals should being in January.

Auditions for a girls' choir are planned by the end of the year.
