Police say Jean Carlo Pena stole the money and then replaced it with some crudely made "cash" of his own.
The theft was uncovered last week when customers at Chase branches on West 57th Street and on Ninth Avenue discovered fake bills mixed in with their ATM withdrawals.
Pena reportedly works for NCR, the company that services the machines.
