Public hearing on proposed homeless shelter

NEW YORK

Residents packed a public hearing in /*Carroll Gardens*/ voicing their concerns over the shelter which would be built on West 9th Street in the middle of a blossoming block, not far from a day care center.

The shelter would house 170 men.

The building was originally supposed to be high-end rental units.

When the apartments failed to fill up, the owner decided to rent the building to the city.
