"With the impending Nor'easter we have to build up the sand we have to get this protected the best we can so we don't lose anymore roadway," said George Gorman, of New York State Parks.
That's because a lot was already lost thanks to Hurricane Sandy.
Eyewitness News got an exclusive look at the damage around the shoreline at Robert Moses State Park and along Ocean Parkway where parts of it were ripped up and in some portions the lanes completely washed away.
On the beach the erosion is extensive.
Crews have been working around the clock to fill in what was lost.
Crews were ready to go though because park officials say they knew well in advance that this Nor'easter was coming.
"The National Weather Service, we went on briefings with them prior to Hurricane Sandy and they notified us that this is going to happen and we were like, 'Oh my God,'" Gorman said.
