Bergen County blue laws return after Sandy

PARAMUS

The blue laws will be restored effective immediately.

Governor Chris Christie temporarily suspended Bergen County's so-called blue laws after Hurricane Sandy at the request of Donovan. The laws were suspended to help residents of Bergen County purchase items they would have otherwise been prohibited from purchasing on Sunday, November 4th and Sunday, November 11th.

Officials in Paramus, where the laws are stricter than the county rules, challenged the suspension. They feared that some were using the storm as an excuse to weaken the blue laws, which were enacted 60 years ago.
