Traffic flow returning to Queens Midtown Tunnel

NEW YORK

The restored 7-10 a.m. traffic pattern follows repairs to the signal control system operating overhead lights in the tunnel. That allows green lights to be displayed over one lane and red lights over the other lane within the same tube.

After the storm, authorities say the system could keep the lights either all green or all red.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says it will provide relief for inbound commuters. The tunnel is a main corridor connecting Queens and Long Island to Manhattan.

The tunnel flooded with water from nearby Newtown Creek on Oct. 29.
