They weren't drugs or weapons, but toys that could have ended up on store shelves.
The dangerous toys could have found their way into the hands, and mouths, of children, just in time for the holiday.
The toys are loaded with lead paint, laced with banned chemicals, and wired for fire.
That's what U.S. Customs and Border Protection investigators say they discovered inside a children's product shipment destined for store shelves.
The toys, holiday's lights and furniture seized in Port Elizabeth represent a variety of hazards to kids according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
These products defined by the CSPC as potentially deadly had small choking parts. One doll head contained thallates, plastic chemicals banned by Congress.
All the products made in China were seized at the border.
Parents are warned to be vigilant when buying toys this season of the hidden dangers that sent almost 200,000 children to emergency room last year.
All of the products seized Thursday will be destroyed.
