Bronx' Orchard Beach reopens after Hurricane Sandy

NEW YORK

Orchard Beach is reopening Wednesday after an extensive cleanup effort following Hurricane Sandy.

The only beach in the borough suffered heavy damage during the storm, including dozens of downed trees.

Parks employees and cleanup crews have been hard at work for the last few weeks, and officials are now preparing to welcome back visitors.

The parks department said 60 trees were either knocked down or had to be cut down, and dozens of other trees had to be inspected before the beach could reopen.
