Hurricane Sandy couple hopes to win wedding contest

STATEN ISLAND

It's all part of TheKnot.com's dream wedding contest. Hundreds of couples have already entered and will essentially have no say on things like the flowers, her gown, cake or wedding bands.

Samantha and Christopher hope to walk away with top prize since they've had a rough few weeks.

"It would take a ton of stress off us, it would definitely get us back on track, where we planning to be in our lives," Samantha Steimle said.

The couple showed Eyewitness News their Staten Island home where they've been working around the clock to put the pieces back together after Hurricane Sandy flooded Chris's childhood home.

When the storm hit, they had just spent roughly $60,000 in renovations, work they are now having to re-do.

To make matters worse, Samantha had started planning their wedding for November in Aruba.

"This definitely doesn't allow us to make any further plans until we know where out money is going to be," Samantha said.

For Chris, all of this has been overwhelming. But, Samantha found out about the wedding contest and convinced Chris to enter.

The Knot says it is looking for the smartest, cutest, most amazing love story out there; these guys are keeping their fingers crossed.

"It would be perfect, it would make our life so much easier, less stress and fighting between me and her," Chris laughed.
