LIPA official questioned in hearing about Sandy

He's on his way out of the job, but LIPA COO Michael Hervey found himself in the hot seat again, facing tough questions over the utility's performance after Superstorm Sandy.

At a public hearing in Central Islip, Hervey was quizzed by Nassau County DA Kathleen Rice.

She's on the special commission put together by Governor Cuomo to investigate the response of utilities to storms.

She brought up a LIPA-commissioned report that recommended a new outage management system years ago that wasn't put in place.

Hervey argued LIPA's preparation was adequate.

More than one million LIPA customers lost power during Sandy and many didn't get it restored for weeks.
