Group urges for 2nd District candidate consolidation

January 25, 2013 (CHICAGO)

A group of religious leaders and community activists, which includes former candidate Donne Trotter, is urging those who aren't likely to win the race to back out.

"What we're asking is those individuals who've had their 15 minutes of fame to now step aside, and let the real contenders, the pretenders step aside, the contenders, come forward," Trotter said.

In the meantime, more than 40 people have applied to replace former 7th Ward Alderman Sandi Jackson.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel will appoint a panel to narrow the list.
