Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy in Washington for gun violence meeting

January 28, 2013 (CHICAGO) Others in attendance include police chiefs from towns that have dealt with mass shootings recently. They include: Aurora, Colo., where 12 were killed in July; Oak Creek, Wis., where six died in a Sikh temple shooting; and Newtown, Conn., where 20 first-graders were slain.

Shootings across Chicago continue to occur, and McCarthy has been public in his support for stricter laws regarding gun ownership.

Seven people were killed in various shootings over the weekend. Six were injured.

One of the deceased was a 16-year-old male.

On January 16, a 17-year-old was shot and killed after a Simeon-Morgan Park high school basketball game at Chicago State University.

On Saturday, McCarthy made it a point to attend the Simeon-Whitney Young high school basketball game at the same location.
