Police make arrest in East Harlem Asian attacks

NEW YORK

Authorities say Jason Commisso was found on a southbound Greyhound bus near Interchange 2 on the New Jersey Turnpike in Woolwich, Gloucester County, Monday night.

The bus was stopped by New Jersey State Police troopers at milepost 13.6 around 11:30 p.m.

Commisso, 34, may have been attempting to flee to Texas at the time of his arrest.

Some of the belongings taken from the victims, including iPhones, was recovered.

Commisso, who police say has more than 30 prior arrests, allegedly attacked at least eight people in the last 10 days, many after being followed into the elevator of their apartment buildings.

All of the victims were Asian, and several of them were severely beaten. Four of the victims were women, and they ranged in age from 25 to 64. Injuries included broken noses and other serious facial injuries.

Commisso is being held at the New Jersey State Police barracks in Moorestown. He faces an extradition hearing Thursday.
