More students to advance to next grade

NEW YORK

More students are about to get promoted to the next grade, even if they flunk the new and harder state tests.

Only the 10 percent worst performing third through eighth grade students will be held back.

Before, all students who scored low had to attend summer school before they were promoted.

Chancellor Walcott denies the implementation adjustment is a form of social promotion, which Mayor Bloomberg fought to stop.
