Elderly man dies in Brooklyn apartment fire

WILLIAMSBURG

The blaze broke out on the 12th floor of the Taylor Wythe Houses on Ross Street in Williamsburg just before 3:30 a.m., and authorities say it was confined to one apartment.

A 78-year-old man who lived in apartment 12J was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other residents of the building were treated for minor injuries, likely smoke inhalation.

Firefighters quickly got control of the flames and put out the fire.

The building was the scene of another fatal fire last month, when a 78-year-old resident died in a fire in her apartment on January 26. It is believed that a lit cigarette in her living room started that blaze.
