Out-of-control vehicle kills woman on sidewalk

NEW YORK

"She was just mumbling and whining. There was nothing she could do it was sad," said Amille Harris, an eyewitness.

Amille Harris felt helpless watching the last few minutes of the victim's life.

The 48-year-old woman was barely conscience as paramedics arrived, minutes after being hit by the driver of a 2011 Honda Ridge Line.

"She was pinned under the car. There was no blood, nothing she could do. Her leg was caught under the tire. It was gory," Harris said.

It happened at the corner of Clinton Street and Atlantic Avenue in /*Brooklyn Heights*/ around 5:40 Friday evening.

The vehicle lost control, hitting Martha Atwater who was standing on the sidewalk.

The 53-year-old driver stayed at the scene and he was questioned by police who don't suspect criminality.

Witnesses say it was painful to watch the woman say her last words to her family.

"A UPS man got her phone and called her family. They told them what happened," Harris said.
