The attack happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning at an apartment building on the 18-hundred block of Lexington Avenue in East Harlem.
Investigators said officers caught the suspect in the act of sexually assaulting the woman in her seventies.
The man, who was allegedly high, was naked when police arrested him.
The victim was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in stable condition.
No further information was immediately released.
