Staten Island immigrants honored for helping others after Superstorm Sandy

NEW YORK

Thursday night immigrants on Staten Island honored for their generosity and good will.

The Staten Island Immigrants Council paid tribute to seven immigrants who had the strength to help their neighbors despite suffering their own personal losses.

Among the honorees was Aiman Youssef, a Syrian immigrant who set up a tent outside his own destroyed house where he still provides free meals.

He is also praying for peace in his native country of Syria.

He says Sandy has taught him to be strong and not give up in the face of adversity.
