Doctor admits painkiller trafficking charges

ALBANY, N.Y.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Dr. David Brizer (BREYE'-zuhr) pleaded guilty in Rockland County Court Friday to felony drug sale, drug possession and conspiracy charges as well as tax fraud for under-reporting his income by $490,000 on his state tax returns in 2010 and 2011.

The 60-year-old Brizer faces a sentence of from 1 to 3 years in prison.

Schneiderman says the doctor sold prescriptions for oxycodone and other painkillers for up to $300 each from February 2010 to August 2012.

The prescriptions were written for non-existent patients and amounted to several million dollars worth of the drugs.
