Due to the across the board federal cuts also known as sequestration, the Air Force, Army and Marine Corps have decided to suspend Tuition Assistance benefits for active duty service members.
"I think it's very short sighted and what is really import is this kind of education is going to help our members transition into civilian life," Hagan told ABC11's John Clark.
In fiscal year, 2012, about 300,000 service members were taking part in the program.
Earlier this week, Hagan sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel expressing her deep concern about the decision.

In Fayetteville, Methodist University said it's giving active-duty military members free tuition because of the federal cuts.
Forty of 85 students enrolled from Fort Bragg for courses that started Monday would have lost the federal grants.
The school said it expected up to 100 students would be unable to register because of the budget cuts.
