The damage from the non-passenger train derailment was extensive, and crews had to repair about 3,700 feet of track.
The derailment occurred last Monday west of Jamaica, Queens.
Still, LIRR service was suspended in both directions between Port Washington and Great Neck because of a broken rail west of Port Washington Station.
Service between Port Washington and Great Neck was restored around 7:30 a.m. Trains are operating at reduced speed through the area of the broken rail, and customers should expect delays. The first westbound train out of Port Washington departed at 7:36 a.m.
Also, the railroad will add extra trains Monday afternoon due to the Passover observance, which begins at sunset.
