"I've been here three years and this is the first time I've ever heard gunshots," a resident said.
She says she heard multiple gunshots all coming from the corner of Roosevelt and Springdale Avenues.
At around 5 p.m. Friday a gunman opened fire, shooting and injuring a victim.
"It's very terrible what happened. I live right down the street," a resident said.
It happened in the middle of this residential neighborhood and police say they witnessed the shooting, and then chased the suspects in a getaway car.
The pursuit went from East Orange to West Orange, ending on 280 when cops caught up to the suspects. They took three people into custody.
"You're always concerned about public safety in a high speed chase, however it was something they had to do had they not done it they would not have apprehended the people," said Carol Clark, Essex County Freeholder.
Carol Clark is an Essex County Freeholder. Eyewitness News met up with her at the corner where the shooting happened, as cops expanded the crime scene.
They were marking evidence in the street and looking for more around the neighborhood, with the victim of this shooting fighting for his life in the hospital.
"This is the kind of stuff that just breaks your heart," Clark said.
