A shooting at a New Jersey convenience store Monday afternoon has left the store owner wounded.

It happened at about 1:00 p.m. at MS& K Confectionary on Prospect Street in Maplewood.

Police say a gunman wearing dark clothing entered the variety store, produced a handgun and demanded that the storekeeper open the cash register.

The two got into a struggle, and the suspect shot the storekeeper once in the torso, then fled the store.

The victim has been rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he is listed in stable condition. His family says the bullet grazed his liver and he is expected to make a full recovery.

The gunman remains on the loose.
