The Bergen County sheriff's office says a two-day gun buyback program netted more than 1,300 firearms and 55,000 rounds of ammunition over the weekened.

Officials say the last time his office did such a program, in 2010, they collected 703 guns.

Gun owners could turn in weapons for cash, no questions asked. They received $300 for assault weapons, $100 for handguns and $80 for shotguns and rifles.

Organizers budgeted about $110,000 for the buyback.

Dropoff locations included churches and community centers in eight cities, including four in Hackensack.
