In Central Park there is a fish that is causing concern in the Harlem Meer.
It's called a snakehead fish, better known as the Frankenfish, and it can live both on land and in the water.
It's causing havoc to the lake's fragile ecosystem.
It was a beautiful day to go fishing but at the Harlem Meer, but be careful what you catch.
Warning signs have sprouted like daffodils around Central Park about the dreaded snakehead fish.
The snakehead fish is an air breathing, predator that will eat just about anything.
They could wreak havoc on the ecosystem.
State officials tell Eyewitness News it is illegal to own a live snakefish in New York State and illegal to transport across state lines.
In 2008, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation found a snakehead fish in the Meer.
Since that alarming discovery, they have not located another but they do want fishermen to stay alert.
The last thing this beautiful lake needs is a wild predator that doesn't belong there.
Fishermen are urged to call the authorities if they catch one and are instructed to not throw it back in the water.
Remember, these fish can and do attack. So, stick to catfish.
