1 dead after car and tour bus collide on Long Island

ROCKY POINT, N.Y.

Police say the driver of a Toyota Scion was driving eastbound on the Route 25A Bypass Saturday night when he crossed over into the westbound lane and collided with a tour bus with no passengers inside that was traveling westbound.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the Toyota Scion was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The name of the motorist will be released after positive identification is determined and next of kin is notified.

The operator of the tour bus, 36-year old Richard Kiernan of Sound Beach, was transported by Rocky Point Rescue to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was treated for minor injuries.

The Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Unit performed a safety check on the tour bus and results are pending.

The Toyota Scion was impounded for a safety check.
